Dr. Allen is a board-certified ophthalmologist who holds a Doctor of Medicine from Duke University in Durham, NC. He completed his clinical internship at Mayo Clinic in Jacksonville, FL, and his ophthalmology residency at Cleveland Clinic in Cleveland, OH. Following his residency, he was an Attending Physician at Cleveland Clinic Florida in Ft. Lauderdale before moving to Peoria, IL, and joining Illinois Eye Center. While there, he also served as an assistant professor at the University of Illinois College of Medicine. He has been back in his home state of Florida practicing with Florida Vision Institute since 2014.

Dr. Allen has been practicing ophthalmology for 14 years and has performed over 10,000 cataract and refractive procedures. He has particular interest in correction of presbyopia and astigmatism in cataract surgery.

Dr. Allen speaks and lectures frequently at both local and national meetings. Recent lectures include "Accommodating lenses with astigmatism correction" : Bausch and Lomb Surgical Advanced Outcomes Summit, Ft. Lauderdale, FL (Feb 2015), AAO Instruction course "Using Corneal Topography Preoperatively in Cataract Surgery" Chicago, IL (Oct 2014), and AAO panel member/presenter, Cataract Cafe, (Oct 2014), "Femtosecond Laser in Challenging Cataract Cases".

In 2005 he was one of the first ophthalmologists in South Florida to be certified by Alcon for its ReSTORĀ® Multifocal Intraocular Lens implant procedure. In 2010, he was named to the prestigious PS250 list for his accomplishments in the field of advanced technology implants for cataract surgery, and since 2011 he has served on the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery "Complicated Cataract Surgery" subcommittee. He has participated in clinical studies for both pharmaceutical and surgical devices, and has been an author or co-author of many ophthalmology articles and peer-reviewed publications.

His professional memberships include American Academy of Ophthalmology, American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons, CEDARS, and the Palm Beach County Ophthalmology Society. He is fluent in both Spanish and English.
